TSIE Conversation Partner Program

20140617-095606-35766861.jpgThe ESL program on the Texas State campus, (where most of our strong relationships with internationals started) is looking for six Conversation Partners to meet with students this summer. All it takes to be a Conversation Partner is that you be a native English speaker (preferably a Texas State student or recent graduate) willing to meet at an agreed upon location for an hour or two, once a week.

If you are interested, please review the guidelines listed here and then apply to be matched with one of the English-learning international students online here: TSIE Conversation Partner Application.

You can turn in the completed application to Lisa Damron at the beginning or end of the Sunday gathering, or you can return it to the TSIE office, which is at the Thornton International House on the corner of W. Woods street and North street.

If you have any questions, please email Lisa Damron, lisadamron@txstate.edu.

Simon from Rwanda!

SimonThis Sunday we have the very special treat of having Simon Dufitumukiza speaking to our church family.  Simon works for True Vineyard Ministries in Rwanda where he is the Country Director of the ministry.  I visited the work in Rwanda last year, and it was amazing.  I was so impressed with Simon and his leadership.  He manages the production of yarn as well as cares for the spiritual needs of the widows and families that TVM works with.  He is full of joy, and I’m so excited that it worked out for him to join us at River Stone.  This will be a very special experience for our church family.  Other members of the True Vineyard team will be with us as well.  It is so good to be able to see and hear first hand how our For the World partners are bringing the Kingdom of God to vulnerable places.  I hope you can make it out to meet Simon. Have a  great weekend!

The Foster family lives in Nicaragua where they are serving as missionaries.  They are from this area, and their home church is here in San Marcos.  River Stone partners with them as they are reaching out to their community there.  Jen will be with us this Sunday to give us an update on the work there.  Additionally, she will be selling coffee that raises support for their ministry.  It is really good, fair trade coffee, and the cause it supports is even better.  We are excited to have Jen with us this Sunday! You will find out more about how you can be involved in the mission work happening in Nicaragua.

Ugandan Father’s Day

Herbert & Eve

Herbert & Eve after speaking in Ft. Worth. The cowboy hat was a gift…

We have a very special treat for our church family this weekend.  Herbert & Eve Wanjala from Uganda will be sharing during our worship gathering this Sunday.  Herbert and Eve lead Wellspring Ministries, and the impact they’re having is amazing.  They work with at-risk kids, help single moms into affordable housing, facilitate leadership development programs, reach out through community healthcare, empower business through mircro-enterprise, start churches in the surrounding areas, and much more.  Wellspring is one of Links International’s longest partnerships, and our church family will have an ongoing opportunity to be a part of what God is doing in Wellspring. Herbert and Eve have paid their own fares to come and be with us, and we will be taking up an offering to help offset some of their expenses. Additionally, they have brought hand-made beads with them (that provide income to single moms) that will be available for purchase.

Hand-made beads

We know this Sunday is Father’s Day, and we hope that you will make worshiping together as a family with Herbert and Eve a part of the festivities.  You will be blessed by your time with them, and it’s going to be a really great day!

RS Summer Missionaries

Each year there are many folks from our church family who spend time during the summers doing International Missions.  Here is a list of those who have let us know about their summer trips.  If you are going on a trip, please let us know, and we’ll add you to the list. Please be in prayer for these opportunities to serve.  If you are led to invest financially into any of these opportunities, you may do so online (enter donation and missionary name into the “For the World” line item – http://www.theriverstonechurch.com/online-giving.htm) or you can mail a check to the church office.

Lauren Rutherford is traveling to Jamaica to partner with a local church there who is serving pre-school aged children in their community. She will be traveling with Chase Oaks Church from Plano. The team will also spend time serving an orphanage in the community. She will be traveling June 9th-15th, and the cost of her trip is $1,600.

Wes Condra is going with FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) to intern in Italy where they will be making disciples and equipping missionaries through sports camps.  It is a 5 week internship (June 23rd-July 25th), and he needs to raise $4,000 by May 9th.  For more information, contact Wes at wescondra@hotmail.com .

Jason Bollinger is traveling to England followed by Zimbabwe July 6-19.  The England part of the trip will include time with the Links International UK Board of Directors and Staff as well as a business training day focusing on helping local business engage in transforming communities around the world.  The Zimbabwe part of the trip will be leading a sustainable business conference with some Links ministry partners in the area.  The cost of the trip will be $4,000.  To learn more, contact Jason at jason@river-stone.org.

Karen Smith will be spending June 1st – August 3rd in a village near Oaxaca, Mexico. She will try to become a part of the community through opportunities of serving by teaching ESL classes to children, or by working alongside a village farmer. By God’s grace, she will have the perfect opportunity to build genuine relationships with the people of the village and ultimately share the gospel! She is going through Go Now Missions who are partners with International Mission Board and Nehemiah Teams. She needed $2,400, but God has already provided the full amount! Prayers, however, are still needed!
Email: karenasmith333@gmail.com.

Tyler Everett is planning to travel to Kazakhstan August 1-15th.  His trip will focus on serving a special needs orphanage as well as teaching English at a local university.  The cost of his trip will be $2,400.  He is raising support for this trip and would appreciate your prayers/financial support.  You may contact Tyler at t.jackson.everett@gmail.com or 832.331.4179.

Sam Aparicio will be in Guatemala from August 1st-20th. He is going back to visit, love on, and help the children at New Life School Guatemala, a school for children with special needs. He’ll be helping them with their studies and hopefully helping them learn English. Also, he is praying that opportunities will arise to visit the local orphanage in Antigua to serve the children along with the ladies who work there. $1,000 will cover his travel, food, and housing. Email Sam at samffp@gmail.com.

Megan Seely is praying that she will be doing some mission work in Haiti this summer. She would be going in early July. She prays God leads her the way he wants her to go and that she commits to it.

Sandy Orrell will be traveling to Santa Cruz, California with Cru to work a Summer Project from May 25th-July16th. Please pray for safe traveling and for students to be teachable. It is her prayer that her work with college students from across the country would impact them to go home and replicate what they have been learning and make disciples of Jesus Christ. After the Summer Project, she will travel to Cru’s National Staff Conference for further training. She will miss her Riverstone family! Her trip is estimated to be about $2000. For more information, contact Sandy at sandyorrell@gmail.com.

Grace Marvic will be going to Parras, Nuevo Leon, Mexico from July 7-20. She will be translating a course called Perspectives which is used nationwide in the U.S for training mission minded people. This course was just translated in Spanish, and she will be there while the people who put the book together train strategic Spanish speaking leaders on how to train others. The cost will be approximately $200. In August, she will be going to Kazakhstan. She will be working with and loving on orphans with special needs and girls at a Mental Institute. She will also be teaching English during breaks in order to meet other English speakers and build relationships with them in order to share Christ. She will be going with a team of people from Camp Blessing, which is a camp for people with disabilities. Our vision is to see the love and acceptance that children experience at camp to be found in Kazakhstan also. The cost will be approximately $2500. She also might have the opportunity to go to North Africa where she would be helping two women who work with children who have special needs and autism. This will also be an additional cost if she is able to go. Email: gm1143@txstate.edu

Nate Rowell is going to Los Cedros, Nicaragua to help the Foster Family with One Journey Nicaragua – partners of Links USA. He will have the opportunity to work alongside coffee farmers – a unique opportunity that pertains to his business in San Marcos and has a potential for far-reaching business/mission correlation. He will be able to serve the local community and share the gospel with elders, families & youth in the surrounding villages. If the opportunity presents itself, he will also be able to build structures and catalog the needs of the local community to help showcase when he returns to the US. Nate can be reached at: mrnathanrowell@gmail.com.

Pierce Eaton will be spending 6 weeks, from July 2nd to August 13th, in Qingdao, China. He will be working with local churches doing a summer camp that will help teach students, mostly middle school aged, English. It is a big outreach for us because learning from a native English speaker is highly coveted. The group consists of me and 6 people who will be going there and meeting up with a small team who lives there year-round. The  group he’s going with is called Commit Ministries based out of Yucaipa, CA. The trip has already been paid for, so all that Pierce is asking for is spiritual support. The church’s prayers are greatly appreciated. There is also a mailing and prayer list that people can sign up for. Pierce is asking that people pray for him for two weeks leading up to his departure, for His stay in China, and for one week when he comes back. If you want to receive updates from or encourage Pierce, e-mail him at pierceeaton@gmail.com.
